Hi all my Frugal Foodie Mamas! Hope you’ve had a wonderful, relaxing weekend!
This week I’ve got so much writing to do that I didn’t think I’d get around to much recipe development, but Little Foodie begged me to make smoothies with him. Cooking together and photographing everything is becoming a weekend ritual for the two of us. He’ll even help me set up shots. And he always helps me dispose of any spare whipped cream!
Last weekend we made four smoothies together, which are going up on Center Cut Cook.com. And this weekend, we made three more for our site. So we have a week full of smoothies for you! Watch for them over the next several days.
With Teen Foodie starting school this week on top of all the usual craziness, I’ve tried to plan some simple meals, some fun ones, and plenty of leftovers. The garden is just starting to pump out some good stuff. I’m hoping to do some garden to table stuff with Little Foodie next weekend. I think he’ll love the chance to get dirty and eat food! And it’s so magical to prepare food you’ve grown yourself. He’ll be five soon, so I think he’ll understand that more this year.
What are you making this week? Please share in the comments below!
New Recipes I’m working on:
Taco Boats (the filling keeps changing!)
Cherries Jubilee Smoothie
Chocolate Covered Cherry Smoothie
Peaches N Cream Smoothie
Stuffed Potato Boats
There were some nice produce deals to be had this week, along with milk, meat and even gas! I’ve been watching with amusement as these two gas stations across the street from each other keep taking turns lowering their gas prices. I need to get a picture of it sometime, it’s hilarious. This is what I paid at Thornton’s the other day with my extra .10/gallon Refreshing Rewards discount. The prices are continuing to fall and I still have plenty of Kroger points to use on my next fill ups. It’s little things like this that make my frugal heart go pitter patter! <3
Aldi and Kroger both have nice produce sales this week, and milk is STILL 1.69 a gallon. So I have it coming out my ears. Chicken breasts were also on sale for $1.69 a pound. I wanted to make Italian Beef this week, but beef is so high I just couldn’t do it. I’m hoping they’ll be a sale soon. I refuse to pay 3.99/lb for factory farmed beef! So we’re doing 5-way Chili instead.
Of course, I can’t walk by the Hunt’s Garlic & Herb Pasta Sauce without picking up a few…
And remember those exotic organic extra virgin olive oils I found last week for 4.99 that were out of my budget? I found them this week in the clearance bin for 3.99! I picked up the last three and can’t wait to get cooking with them! I also picked up those chia seeds from Aldi and will be taking them for a spin. What great deals did you find this week?
